Help me buy my car 1999 E55 vs 2001 E430 sport

I am in the midst of deciding between these two cars. I can get the e430 16,000 miles with the sport package, moonroof, and heated seats for $38K it has 1.5 years of warranty left. The e55 55,000 miles has no warranty but new brakes ($3k) and new Pilot Sports ($2k) this one will cost me only $31k.
Both cars are pretty mint and original owner cars.
All opinions are welcome. Has anyone had any major minor problems with their e55s with these miles? I am worried about buying a non warrantied $30000 USED car.

Let me know what you think

W210 E55's can be had right now at bargain prices, only 2-3000 dollars more than a comparable E430. Follow the sales prices on ebay. I bet you will be able to get a pretty good 2000 and maybe even a 2001 E55 for under $40,000. The price of your 99 E55 is pretty good but since it is out of warranty, to purchase an extended warranty for a used car is somewhat pricey.

All I can say is... AMG RULES!!!

I seriously doubt you can get a '01 E55 for 3K more than a e430. The wholesalers in California will pay 50-55K for a '01 E55.

They will??? Sorry, 45-48k wholesale is more likely. With '02s still sitting on the lot untitled going for 56-58k, wholesale on an '01 won't be anywhere near 55k.

he was probably talking about last years price. When I got my car last year the 01 E55 was around $50-53k range, but I still got my car cuz I like new things and don't need a larger car.

anywayz, compare a 01 430 to a 99 55 is hard because in the AMG you get the performance and special trimmed interior and ect, but in the 01 E430, you'll get the dash information display and newer front end and tail light update. Personally, I can't decide. You'll have to test drive both.

It's a done deal. I am part of the AMG family. My next questions: I am interested in an aftermarket warranty. I found someone selling a Heritage (a++) warranty that include wear and tear but excludes maintenance and appearance items. $O deductible for 3300 for another 3yrs or 100k. Does this sound reasonable. Has anyone heard any good or bad things about this insurer?

Any upgrade recomendations for the 99 e55? Anything I should be cautious of?

E55 AMG
wannabe no more

amgwannabe, welcome to the club! You made the right choice, an AMG is always the pick, regardless of price. Now all you need to do is change your name to something else, like maybe "amgbe".

2000 E55 AMG
Amgwannabe,
Congratulations on your purchase. I went through a similar situation 5 months ago. I bought a 2000 E55 with 60k miles but the car was in absolutely great condition. I did buy an extended warrenty, thankfully, since the entire instrument cluster died on me after 6 weeks of ownership. Other than that, I have had zero problems with the car other than my jaw starts to ache slightly after driving (due to constant grinning).

C32 AMG, Volvo S80T6
just saw a 99 E55 at dealer

had only 9000 miles on it and wanted $45k for car. I thought it was a great deal with such low mileage. Any thoughts...

I would expect that car to be under $40K.

$45k is around the right price for what dealer is selling for...I would say high $30's is more accurate tho.

just go look at how much a 2000 E430 is selling. That will usually be the same price range as the 99 E55.
