Transmission in Limp (Safe) mode -- Help!!!

Vehicle Make - Mercedes Benz
Vehicle Model- E-430
Vehicle Year- 2000
Approximate mileage- 60,000 miles

I have a big problem. I took my benz in for a simple oil leak on the electrical connection of the transmission. The mechanic could not remove the screw to remove the plug and after much force broke the plug on the transmission and decided to remove the transmission oil pan and Valve body and replaced the part that he broke. For lack of a specific part name it is where the you plug the electrical socket coming from the computer to the trans and is the plastic piece which bolts on to the valve body. He put back everything but the car is still in limp mode. It has reverse and 2nd gear. Check Engine Light is on. Diagnostic report said a problem with Solonoid A. Is that possible or a reset is needed? If so, how do you reset this mode?

Sounds to me like the mechanic is an independent not a dealer. Have it taken to a dealer for correction and hold the independent financially responsible. He obviously does not have the skills or the proper equipment/tools to do the job.

sounds like the conductor plate is broken. When the conductor plate goes, you will get erratic shifting, and finally it will go into safe mode with 2nd and R only.

Yes it sounds like the conductor plate was broken and thats the part that was later replaced. But the car is still in safe mode. What does the dealer need to do to clear this mode? Just curious not to get ripped off.
Thanks for all your help,
Alex

yes.....seeing is that it's a CEL, you might be able to reset it with just a regular scanner. (not sure about 2nd part)
