Fuel Leaking

Hi All.. I've got a S320

I've started noticing fuel leaking out of my fuel tank, basically I can see dried fuel stains coming out of the fuel tank cover. I've checked the fuel cap, seems tight fitting, doesn't move around all that much.

Has anyone else encountered this problem? Is it a case of just a leaky fuel cap? Seems to happen alot more when I have been driving and cornering fast. Hopefully its just a fuel cap issue.. wonder how much those things cost? and not anything bigger...

Thanks..

The same thing happened to a brand new S320 I bought in 1996, MB replaced the gas tank under warranty. I would not recommend driving the car if it is leaking fuel, that is very dangerous. I had ours towed to the dealer asap when I noticed it.

I've gone through a fuel leak with my very first car, worst case scenario it's an experience no one wants, the block broke.

Anyways, it is not just condensation? You say on the top part of the engine?

As for me, my Fuel light started turning ON, then it would turn OFF once I pressed the gas more and not just cruising. If it is on Cruise Control, it never happens. If it's a steep slop, it turns ON.

Now this only happens if the gas tank is below the half-way mark, or if I'm cruising at a steady ## mph. I've added about a half a quart since the engine oil measured out to a little under half. It is a leak or just condesation?
